Multiple Sclerosis Remission Is Possible
To the Editor:
After 28 years of battling the ravaging effects of multiple sclerosis (MS), I’ve finally received an MRI result that showed no progression — my first sign of remission. Normally, these MRI results are a gut-wrenching experience, but this time was different — and incredibly encouraging.
The credit for my first-ever positive result goes to a brilliant but lesser-known neurologist from Brazil, Dr Cicero Coimbra. His treatment, known as the Coimbra Protocol, utilizes high-dose vitamin D and has helped people with MS and other autoimmune diseases. (1) Thanks to this protocol — along with tens of thousands of other patients worldwide — I have achieved remission and, in many cases, significant symptom improvement. The protocol does involve additional requirements: foremost among them is the need for a properly trained protocol doctor. Specific cofactors are also required, along with some manageable dietary restrictions to maintain proper calcium levels and avoid hypercalcemia.
